Oh, PS: I just looked you up online and you were a lil hard to find because not too many people apparently know you (or care, or both), but I think I found you. Are you the guy in the photo with the big nose and no lips or are you the overweight guy with the goofy smile? Either way, I wouldn't throw off on the photos of others if I were you. Just sayin'...

[...] Jimmy Seals and Dash Crofts have shared a great deal of interesting experiences together; it would be difficult to cover all the facets of their career in this entry, so I’ll point you towards the official Seals & Crofts website, where you can follow their career from junior high school, when they first met, to The Champs (of "Tequila" fame), to a band with Glen Campbell, to their success as S&C and beyond. It’s a fantastic chronicle of the duo written by a guy named Anthony Bentivegna, who is to Seals & Crofts what Dominic is to Benny Mardones (that joke will make sense to the five of you who read the site back in the Fall). Thanks, Tony. You’ve allowed me to be lazy. The only thing I’ll lift from your site is the following two pictures, which I need to categorize under "NOT OKAY:" [...]

[...] Nope. Cutting Crew was two and through in America, at least as far as I can tell. Looking at the cover photo for Compus Mentus, it seems more than likely that it was only released in Europe, and probably independently. Singer Nick Van Eede “reformed” the band last year, issuing his solo album Grinning Souls as a Cutting Crew release after obtaining a blessing from the family of guitarist Kevin MacMichael, who died in 2002. (They’ve got a new official site and fucking MySpace page and everything.) Thankfully, Van Eede doesn’t seem to have done what we like to call “pulling a Benny Mardones” and made room for the dreaded remake of a 20-year-old hit — although “I Just Died in Your Arms (acoustic)” is, of course, featured at MySpace — so give him credit for that. Oh, and our readers in, um, Dubai will be glad to know the reconstituted Crew is performing there next month! [...]

[...] Remember the Benny Mardones post where we discussed the DJ in Phoenix, Arizona? The one who resurrected "Into The Night" nine years after its inital peak on the Billboard charts? Well, UB40’s "Red, Red Wine" had actually reached #34 back in March of 1984, but after their performance of the song at the "Nelson Mandela’s 70th Birthday Tribute" in July of 1988, it was resurrected and brought back into rotation…by a DJ in Phoenix. Same DJ? No clue. Still, a cool story.1. Groovy Kind Of Love - Phil Collins As you have seen this week, we’re all about the covers. "Groovy Kind Of Love" was a cover of The Mindbenders’ #2 hit in 1966….who took it from Patti LaBelle and The Blue Belles the same year…who got the song originally from Carole Bayer Sager (her first pop hit) and Toni Wine….who copped the melody from Clementi’s Sonatina Op. 36: No. 5 in G Major. Everybody got that?
I just looked up this song because it was in my head. When I used to go to the doctor's office as a teenager (post '89 revival), this song would always come on in the waiting room, and it unsettled me that the doctor's office thought that a song that seemed to me at the time to be about kidnapping was an okay song for sick kids to listen to. I still kind of expect to hear it in waiting rooms. I was a little surprised not to find more people on the internet talking about how it's kind of gross, actually.
