Mellodelay!

Between performances of my show and rehearsals for the next Evil Prince Ludwig gig at the Bitter End, I have had precious little time for writing.  My hope is to get Mellow Gold up tomorrow.  Cross your wussy fingers.

A hint for you, though: the next Mellow Gold covers a track with a chorus that is meant to be a reassurance of love, but in truth, comes off more as a threat.  Guesses?

More Than Words! More Than Words!!Misogynistic damned song.

  2. Jason Says:

That’s not Mellow Gold!  But we’ll have to discuss "More Than Words" on here at some point.  I love how angry you get about it.

  3. Pete Says:

"I Touch Myself" by The Divinyls?

  4. Jason Says:

No, but I’d love to hear your defense of how "I Touch Myself" qualifies for Mellow Gold.  :)

Okay, I’m shutting up now.  I should give points to the most creative answer.

  5. Pete Says:

It’s not Mellow Gold (more like "Lite FM Gold") but I thought it could possibly fit the criteria for the chorus. ; )

    Paul Davis, I Go Crazy.

“I love you so much, baby. C’mere. C’mere. C’MERE. LOOK AT ME! I’M FUCKING INSANE FOR YOU, BWAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA …!

Jason:Was it intentional that you referenced Beck’s first two major-label albums in the single word title of this post (Mellow Gold and Odelay)?

  8. Jason Says:

Indeed it was, Matthew.  I’m glad somebody noticed. :)

David, you need to check out our All Paul Davis Edition from a while back!

Also, I’ve got to guess that the song is "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago: So Mellow I think it’s the unofficial dentist office theme song, and so Gold because it was a number one it here in & in the UK; plus, it has a good back story, basically changed the direction of a "significant" and long-lived band, and the chorus lyrics seem like a plea of love when heard, but read like an accusation that if Cetera’s women leaves, she’ll literally rip his heart out ("….you’ll take away the very heart of me"), thus having mellow blood all over her hands. So, I think I’ve got all the bases covered; and, if I’m not right, there’s a  good suggestion for a future Mellow Gold right there.

Oh, shit. Paul was way back in part two, wasn’t he? Alright, second try:

    “Hell Awaits” by Slayer.

I don’t have a guess, but I look forward to the "Every Breath You Take"-like gem you’re going to write about, Jason.  In the meantime, readers, please check out my 3/14/92 Chart Attack! once again.  There are SO many layers to it that I’m sure you missed most of them the first time.

  12. Catherine Says:

I agree with Robert – has to be "Every Breath You Take", the anthem for stalkers everywhere

  13. Robert Says:

I said LIKE “Every Breath You Take,” not “Every Breath You Take” itself, but yes, I was expecting something with a stalker vibe.
