Don't get me wrong, Duran Duran was a great band early on... John Taylor's bass playing was excellent, Nick always had the hooky synths on EVERY song,  the other Taylors rocked, and we all know they looked good.   But Simon, geez. Not just an awful, hammy singer, but the worst lyricist in rock history, bar none. Even worse than Noel Gallagher. "The Reflex" is as good an example as any. Is there anything more annoying than that "Why-yay-yay-yay-yay don't you use it" vocal? A refresher: "Why-yay-yay-yay-yay don't you use it Try-yay-yay-yay-yay not to bruise it Buy-yay-yay-yay-yay time don't lose it" I'm sorry, but the f*cking worst. God was Simon LeBon awful. Simple stuff, no brain teasers, but hooky as hell. I was working the show and figured it would be a very dopey set of hit songs, but SURPRISE--they were one of the greatest bands I've ever seen. Tight, exuberant, joyful bar-band music. They sounded nothing like their hit-song production--and they played everything really rocking and speeded up. I wish they had released an album that showcased their exciting  live sound because those top 40 hits were too glossy for my taste. Fun fact: Huey was in a hippy band before the News, called Clover.
