I would love to hear Neil Diamonds "Be", if you wouldn't mind sharing on project playlist.
You're fabulous!
Thank you!

If Michael Bolton sounds like he's getting his prostate examined when he sings, Neil Diamond sounds like his taking a huge, painful, crap on this song.

If you read Dave Barry's Book of Bad Songs (and if not, why not?), you may recall that the whole project started because Dave had the temerity to criticize a Neil Diamond song (specifically, "I Am, I Said") in one of his columns. This naturally led many readers who were Neil Diamond fans to write angry letters about the column (postage stamps and all--this was back in the days when the Internet was still an academic curiosity). Be sure to read his generic irate-Neil-Diamond-fan letter. At the same time, the column also generated equal if not greater amounts of I-hate-Neil-Diamond responses. Dave responded by creating the Bad Song Survey, which led (after several years) to the book. The book is a must-read for serious miners of Mellow Gold, and it does an especially good job with the Mellow Gold of the late 50s and 60s.

Actually, I have to disagree with Jeff about this song sounding like a Neil Diamond parody. It sounds more like a parody of a Neil Diamond parody.

After his bombshell announcement that he wrote "Sweet Caroline" about a very, VERY young Caroline Kennedy, I can't hear Neil Diamond sing anything without looking for clandestine perversity.

For instance, I wonder if any of the kids in his children's choir will inspire a song called, "That Girl Gave Me A Boner".

I think you should listen to Tom Lehrer's Hanukkah song. In fact, I think everyone should listen to more Tom Lehrer songs.

Dear Santa,

I have been a very good boy this year. For Christmas, I would like a decent toupee.

Yours truly,
Neil
