Thanks for letting us tease you, Dan. Despite the jokes, I hold a special place in my heart for your music.  Condolences to the Fogelberg family and fans.

Ah, shit. That really sucks. As much as his music annoyed me, it made a lot of other people happy, and these days, that’s a good thing.

A tip of the hat, then, and a raising of my evening’s pint glass. Rest in peace.

Dammit, Dan. You just ruined Mellowmas for everyone.

Oh well. Peace be with you, Funk-Soul brother.

    A true Mellow Gold guy.

    Never can repay.

    God bless.

  5. Robert Says:

    I’ll always like “Heart Hotels.”

  6. Old Davy Says:

It’s easy to pick on Dan Fogelberg, but he really was a master at the 70’s easy-going singer songwriter genre. Souvenirs, Nether Lands and High Country Snows are all 5-star albums.

RIP. I think I’ll spin the box set in his honor today.

  7. Py Korry Says:

I was never a fan of his music, but this is very sad news indeed.

“Same Old Lang Syne” will always remind me of those cold nights growing up in Ohio and the trips back to my hometown after my high school sweetheart moved away. And “Leader of the Band” might as well have been about my father. RIP Dan.

  9. Richard Brandt Says:

Old Davy, I’ll still take “Stars,” off his first album, over any of that later stuff.

  10. Davewillie Says:

R.I.P. to one-half of the “Twin Sons of Different Mothers.”

Bob Lefsetz is a quasi-“insider” in the music industry, and quite often his blog postings expel more hot air than I usually like to deal with, but damned if I’m not addicted to ’em. His writing about music, though (when he focuses on music and not the music business), can be moving. He just posted something quite good, something that’s kinda-sorta about Fogelberg, but really kinda-sorta more about life and love and such. I thought it was pretty cool. When you have the chance, check it out:

The Leader of the Band has died. Prostate cancer took this young 56 year old singer/songwriter. It has been said that had it been caught earlier, Dan might have survived. As a prostate cancer survivor I was diagnosed at age 47 (quite by accident). Fogelberg’s diagnosis happened when he was 52 and by then it was in advanced stages. As a professional speaker ( http://www.chuckgallagher.com ) I have the opportunity to speak to groups nation wide. While my presentations don’t center around this disease, I use every opportunity available to encourage men to get checked early and often. A simple blood test done soon enough could mean the difference between life and death.

All right, all right, you guys have worn me down — I’m having an all-Fogelberg morning today. We miss you, Foge!
